The short answer: below are 100 girls flag football team names sorted into twenty themes — empowering, fierce, creative, mythology, color, football lingo and more. The strongest picks are short, easy to chant from the sideline, matched to your uniform colors, and about how the team plays rather than how the players look.

One decision, not two. Your name and your jersey colors should be chosen together. "Emerald Exploders" in navy makes no sense. SPORTY prints custom flag football jerseys at a flat $26 per jersey with no minimums, no design or setup fees, and four-business-day USA shipping — so no minimum order locks you into a color before you've picked a name.

Girls' flag football is the fastest-growing girls' sport in the country. Participation climbed 48.7% in a single year, from 68,847 to 102,360 players, and the number of schools fielding teams grew from 2,736 to 3,990. A total of 37 states will be sanctioning the sport or running independent and pilot programs by next year (NFHS). It also cracked the top 10 most popular girls' sports for the first time, and makes its Olympic debut at LA28. Which means a lot of brand-new teams are naming themselves this season, and most of the obvious names are already taken in your league.

How to Choose a Name, and What Not to Put on a Jersey

Once you have two or three finalists, run them through this:

Say it out loud from the sideline. If a parent can't yell it without effort, it won't get yelled. "Storm Sirens" works. "Sack-tacular Sisters" is a mouthful by the third quarter.

Count the characters. Under about twelve fits comfortably across a chest at full size. Longer names get shrunk or split across two lines, and both cost legibility.

Plan the two-word layout. "Gridiron Grit" and "Flash Force" read best stacked, one word above the other, rather than stretched across the chest in a single line. Settle that before you approve a proof.

Test the logo at three inches. Detailed illustrations lose definition below a couple of inches. Ask for a simplified silhouette alongside the full-detail version — you'll want the simple one on jerseys and the detailed one on banners.

Check your own division roster. If there's already a Blitz in your league, you'll spend the season being "the other Blitz."

Names to avoid

Licensed characters and franchises. Marvel, Star Wars, Disney and DC names are protected by copyright and trademark, and changing the spelling or redrawing the art does not make them usable (UpCounsel). Most reputable decorators will decline the order.

Pro team and competition marks. Team names, wordmarks and slogans function as badges of origin, which is exactly what trademark protects in sports merchandise (UBC Allard IP). Inspiration from a color scheme is fine; copying a crest or a competition name is not.

Names about how the players look. This one isn't legal, it's practical. A name built on appearance ages badly, tends not to survive the first tournament, and sends the wrong message to a roster of athletes. Name the team for what it does on the field.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What are good girls flag football team names?

Strong picks are short, chantable, and matched to your uniform colors — Storm Sirens, Crimson Crush, Coastline Crushers, Tornado Tacklers. Keep it under about twelve characters for a clean single-line chest layout, and choose a name about how the team plays rather than how the players look.

What are good flag football team names for young girls?

For the youngest divisions, playful beats fierce: Mighty Minis, Rookie Rockets, Fearless Fireflies, Punt Party, Star Chasers. Kids remember them and they photograph well.

What are some empowering flag football team names?

Gridiron Goddesses, Queens of the Field, Trailblazers, Warrior Women, Limitless Ladies, Relentless Rise and Ascending Aces all describe strength or ambition rather than appearance.

Can we name our team after a Marvel or Star Wars character?

No, not on custom jerseys. Character names and marks are protected by copyright and trademark, and changing spelling or artwork doesn't remove the risk (UpCounsel). Most decorators will refuse the order. Pick an original name in the same spirit instead.

How many girls play flag football?

Participation reached 102,360 players in 2025-26, up 48.7% from 68,847 the prior year, across 3,990 schools, with 37 states sanctioning or piloting the sport by next year (NFHS).

Should the team name match our jersey colors?

Yes — decide them together. A color-based name like Sapphire Stingers or Gold Rush Girls tells your printer the palette immediately and saves a round of proofs.

How long can a team name be on a jersey?

Practically, under about twelve characters for a single-line chest layout. Longer names still work but need stacking or a smaller point size, which reduces legibility from the sideline.

Who should pick the team name — coach or players?

Let the players shortlist and the coach approve. Buy-in matters more than cleverness, and a name the players chose actually gets chanted. Screen the shortlist for licensed characters before promising anything.
